From Wildcats to Rustlers.
Swift Current Innovation Federal Credit Union Wildcats Alexa Kobley and Kyle Benjamin are heading to Lloydminster next season to play for the Lakeland College Rustlers.
"I've had a few buddies who went up there and they really liked it," Kobley said. "Then when the coach reached out, he was really interested and it just felt like the right fit."
They were both impressed when meeting Rustlers head coach Morgan Mann.
"When we met with the coach, he was a beauty," Benjamin said. "We just got along with him right away."
They join a number of former Wildcats in making the move to Lakeland college.
"Getting their experiences and knowing it's good," Benjamin said. "It makes us want to go there."
Getting college commitments are a big focus of the program every year.
"We've got a pretty good pipeline up there right now," said Wildcats head coach Terry Pavely. "You want kids to get opportunities. That's the bottom line. Our number one goal is to get kids to college or university hockey. That's the first part of the goal, but now we have to make sure they're ready to step up and play."
Both players have goals for development in their final season with the Wildcats.
"Get better behind the net," Kobley said. "Maybe get some more points would be nice."
"I need to get better in front of the net," Benjamin said. "Try to score some more goals and just better on the wall."
The Wildcats are in the Edmonton area this weekend for the Canadian Crown U18 showcase tournament.
