It was a perfect night weather wise in Watrous for football and it turned out to be a perfect evening on the scoreboard for the Watrous Wildcats as they defeated the Assiniboia Rockets 54-12 in six-man high school football action.
With the victory, the Wildcats moved into second place in the conference standings and above the .500 mark (3-2).
The Wildcats scored their first touchdown two minutes into the contest and never looked back.
Their lead was extended to 16 following a touchdown reception from Chase Rheaume from Blake Morelli.
Watrous added to their lead with Justice Holland taking over at Quarterback and connecting on a deep pass to Addison Klassen.
On the ensuing kickoff, the Rockets posted their first points of the game, when Langston Gold returned the kickoff for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 24-6.
With six minutes remaining in the first half, Holland hooked up with Rheaume on a screen pass for a 20-yard touchdown reception, extending the Wildcats lead to 32-6.
Assiniboia struck back with Gold collecting his second touchdown of the game, thanks to a 60-yard run.
Before the end of the half, the Wildcats were able to add one touchdown with a successful screen pass from Holland to Klassen. At halftime, the Wildcats led 40-12.
While the scoring was fast and furious in the first, there were only two touchdowns in the second half.
Rheaume added his third touchdown catch of the game in the third quarter.
To finish off the scoring, Aaron Bourgos scored on a touchdown run to make the final 54-12.
Watrous will finish off their regular season on Friday, October 18 when they host Davidson.
