The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings were looking to extend their winning streak to three games Friday night when they took on the Notre Dame Hounds in Assiniboia. They would extend the streak, thanks to a hat trick by Liam Fitzgerald in the first period, and a lot of offense from all the lines, as they skated to a 7-1 win.

"Fitzy's been good," head coach Cody Mapes said after the game. "He's got a scoring knack like that."

With the three goals Fitzgerald now leads the team with 12 points on the season.

The goals Friday night came in bunches. Fitzgerald's first goal of the night, assisted by Simon Martin, came at the 10:12 mark of the opening period. Then, at 15:35, Luke Dekay would set up Fitzgerald for his second goal.

Ethan Dekay then made it three nothing when he scored with 2:54 remaining on the clock. Fallen Oxelgren and Max Chakrabarti had the helpers on that goal.

Weyburn would end up on the power play shortly after, and I didn't take long at all for Fitzgerald to net his third of the game. With 2:21 remaining he put the puck past Notre Dame goalie Spencer Borsos to make it 4-0 Weyburn. Jace McNichol and Josh Karman had the helpers on the tally.

In the second period, McNichol would need just 88 seconds from the start of the period to score his first ever SJHL goal. Lucas Schmid had the assist.

Then, Chakrabarti scored a goal of his own at 4:14 of the second, assisted by Schmid. Weyburn wasn't done, though, as Drew Molde potted his second of the campaign with 10:21 remaining in the frame to make it 7-0. Ryder Rommelaere and Schmid had the assists.

In the Weyburn end, Angelo Zol played strong, turning aside 31 of the 32 shots he faced. The only blemish came late in the second, when Nick Beatty tipped a shot from the point on a Notre Dame power play in for the goal.

With the win, the Red Wings improve to 3-4-0-0 on the season, and will look get back to .500 tonight as they host the Yorkton Terriers at Crescent Point Place. The puck drops at 7 p.m.
