The Estevan Police Service were busy over the weekend with several calls about speeding, impaired driving, and assault on an officer by a dog.
During the long weekend, police conducted high-visibility check stops throughout the city. Out of 250 vehicles stopped, 19 motorists were subjected to a breathalyzer test. One person had their license suspended for three days due to drugs being in their system. Three tickets were issued for open alcohol in the vehicle and four other traffic infractions were observed.
Am Estevan woman was charged with an assault to a police officer after her dog was left without a leash, attacking a cop. There were no injuries reported.
On Saturday, a 39-year-old woman was stopped for signs of impairment. After an oral fluid device reading showed positive, police took her to the hospital to take blood samples. The driver was issued a driving suspension and her vehicle was impounded.
Police found a speeding suspect who fled authorities on October 9. A 17-year-old Estevan male was arrested, interviewed, and charged with one count of flight from police. He was also charged with reckless driving.
On October 11, police were asked to identify a substance left in a hotel room. After running some tests, it was found to be a narcotic. the matter is under investigation.
EPS also responded to two instances of welfare checks over the weekend. A 32-year-old man and a 36-year-old man, both from Estevan, were located by police after friends and family weren't able to get in contact with them.
A driver with a newer Ford F350 truck sped off from police in the early hours of Friday morning. The truck was last seen on Albert Street, near Bannatyne Avenue, before the police called off the pursuit.
