The Swift Current Broncos are looking to play with more pace and consistency after a couple losses on the weekend.

Swift Current fell 4-1 in Regina on Friday and then got behind 4-1 to Everett in the first period on Saturday. They played better as the game went along, but still dropped the game 6-3.

"(In the) second and third we started playing with pace," said Broncos assistant coach Regan Darby during our broadcast of Redhead Equipment and Case IH Broncos Hockey on Country 94.1 FM. "Our gaps were better. We were moving pucks a lot quicker not worried about being so pretty, but like getting them into the zone and then running on them. But a little too late. That's how we want to play. You know, we're gonna work on those habits trying to create that style of play."

Darby was impressed with the performance of local rookie Parker Rondeau who stepped into a top six role on Saturday.

"I thought Parker had a great game," Darby said. "He played with a lot of pace. He was creative with the puck. He was stripping pucks off of guys, tracking hard. He had a really good game and that's what we need. Guys like that when they get the opportunity to step up in the lineup to show up. But to continue to play like that... if you want to be successful, you've got to play fast. You've got to transition fast. Hopefully this is a learning lesson for us."

The losses on the weekend dropped the Broncos to 4-5 for the WHL season so far. They're home to Spokane on Friday and Moose Jaw on Saturday.

"For us it's going to be playing fast," Darby said. "We want to stop on the net. We want to start creating more. I feel like we can generate more offense just off of driving plays."

Spokane is 3-1 on their East Division swing so far. They're in Brandon tonight.
