The Red Deer Rebels snapped their three-game losing streak Wednesday night with a 5-4 overtime win in Calgary.

Hunter Mayo was the overtime hero with his second goal of the game 2:22 into the extra frame.

Red Deer was up 2-0 after the first period with goals by Cohen Poulin and Jaxon Fuder, who netted his first WHL goal. 

Hunter Mayo made it 3-0 early in the second with his fourth goal of the season.

The Hitmen cut the lead to 3-2 before the end of the second and tied the game early in the third.

Both teams would trade goals in the third to send the game to overtime.

The Rebels powerplay went 1-for-3 on the night, while the Hitmen capitalized on 3-of-7 opportunities.

Red Deer’s Chase Wutzke stopped 33 of 37 shots, while Eric Tu stopped 32 of 37 for the Hitmen.

With the win, the Rebels improved their record to 5-3-1-0 on the season while Calgary sits at 3-4-1-0.

The Rebels welcome the Saskatoon Blades to the Peavy Mart Centrium this Saturday, October 19 at 7 p.m. On Sunday, the Rebels host Edmonton for a 4 p.m. matinee.
