They're bringing the thunder to the basketball court.
Swift Current's Rolling Thunder wheelchair basketball program is into their fourth year and looking for additional players.
"We started in 2020 with grants and things like that," said Loralee Orthner. "The majority of the program started in 2021."
The program came to be after the previous launch of sledge hockey in Swift Current.
"We decided there was a need to introduce some parasports into our community," Orthner said. "Prior to that we had introduced sledge hockey, and then there was a group of moms who had worked with wheelchair basketball in Saskatoon and had now moved here. They worked to set up the program here in Swift Current."
They've had between 10-15 athletes participating in the program.
It is open to any kids from ages 6 to 16 interested in learning the game.
"I think they love it," Orthner said. "You could see there was laughs, giggles and lots of fun happening."
They play Tuesday nights at Ecole Centennial.
