The Red Deer Rebels won their second straight game hanging on to beat Saskatoon 2-1 Saturday night at Peavey Mart Centrium.

The Rebels improved their record to 6-3-1-0 and are tied for top spot in the Central Division with 13 points.

Hunter Mayo opened the scoring 5:11 into the first with his sixth of the season for Red Deer. Mayo leads the league in goals by a defenseman.

Jhett Larson would make it 2-0 for the home side late in the first.

Saskatoon got on the board 4:47 into the second when Brandon Lisowsky found the back of the net.

Rebels netminder Chase Wutzke stopped 30 of 31 shots, while Evan Gardner turned away 33 of 35 for the Blades.

Red Deer was 0-for-1 on the power play. Saskatoon was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

The Rebels are back in action Sunday afternoon at home against Edmonton. Puck drop is at 4 p.m.
