Estevan police are cracking down on school zone safety and responding to various incidents, including traffic violations, fraud, and fire-setting, in recent days.

Estevan police are continuing to crack down on school zone safety after a vehicle failed to stop for a bus with flashing red lights and an extended stop arm on King Street. This incident was one of several reported to EPS in recent days, including cases of fire-setting, fraud, and traffic violations.

On Oct. 16, the Estevan Police Service (EPS) received a complaint of a vehicle disobeying a school bus stop arm and flashing red lights along King Street during morning pick-ups and drop-offs. Police will continue monitoring and enforcing the rules against motorists who fail to stop as required.

Police responded to a report of stolen dogs from the 1300 block of 7th Street. Officers attended and determined no theft had occurred.

A report of a disturbance in the central area of town was received. When police arrived, they found a person in the yard picking up their belongings.

Later that day, a report was received of two young people lighting items on fire near Perkins Street and MacDonald Road. Police located the pair and educated them on the dangers of fire. A piece of plastic had been set on fire and thrown into a puddle. The youths were taken home, and their parents were informed. The pair were cooperative and appeared to understand the dangers of their actions.

The following day, Oct. 17, a driver tested positive for THC on an oral fluid device and was issued a three-day driver’s licence suspension. Their vehicle was also impounded following a traffic stop.

A 28-year-old man from Oxbow was issued a 120-day driving suspension and a summary offence ticket for driving while suspended and as an unaccompanied learner after a traffic stop on 6th Avenue. The driver also tested positive for THC and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital for blood tests. Charges are pending the results.

On Oct. 19, following an investigation by the EPS patrol division, a 36-year-old man was charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after he fled at a dangerous speed from officers attempting to conduct a traffic stop on Oct. 12.

A 43-year-old man was charged with two counts of fraud under $5,000 and two counts of unauthorized use of credit card data, stemming from a complaint received earlier in the month.

Under the Mental Health Act, a 25-year-old man was arrested and transported to the Weyburn Mental Health Facility for assessment.

Police received a complaint of a quad stunting in the 400 block of Willow Park Greens. The quad was located, and the owner was spoken to. Witnesses were unable to positively identify the driver, and the owner was cautioned regarding the observed driving actions.

The next day, EPS conducted a well-being check on a three-year-old child following a missed FaceTime call with her mother. The child was found with her father and confirmed to be in good health.

Officers responded to a call about an elevator emergency at Affinity Place; the elevator was found to be in working order, with no one trapped inside.

Later in the day, a domestic dispute was reported at an apartment complex on the south side of Estevan. A 28-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were found yelling at each other. Police attended, and the two were separated, with the woman returning to her home in Regina.
