A newcomer to municipal politics is looking to build relationships as Reeve for the RM of Swift Current.
Romona Dyck is bringing her schoolboard and business management experience to the race to replace retiring Reeve Robert Neufeld.
"My husband, Brian, and I have lived in the RM of Swift Current since 1986 operating and managing the family farm," Dyck said. "I just feel strongly that there needs to be an openness to all of the concerns of the ratepayers in Swift Current. While I have never served on council before, I have served on the school board for the Wymark School Board when our children were going to school there.
"I feel like I've got strong organizational skills and administrational skills just through the management that I do of our family farm. I have a good understanding of rural life and the needs of the people in an RM. I just am very anxious to serve the RM rate payers equitably and fairly."
Dyck also has a history in the arts community.
"I was employed by the Art Gallery and the Swift Current Allied Arts Council for a number of years," she noted. "The management skills that I bring to the farm; I am responsible for the financial planning, the funding applications, payroll, marketing of our crops. I do have strong organizational skills."
Relationship building would be top of mind if Dyck won the election.
"I do understand that the Swift Current RM is a complicated RM," she said. "Because obviously it surrounds the city of Swift Current. We need to have good working relationships with both the municipalities that surround us, but also with the City of Swift Current. Given that there are a number of acreages that are within the RM, a number of communities within the RM, and then the farming community, it is a complicated RM to deal with. I hope that I can bring some understanding between those separate communities in a way that can help the RM to move forward."
Dyck is running against Esther Wall and Richard Kehler to replace Robert Neufeld as RM of Swift Current Reeve.
