The light rains seen earlier this week could be the last of the precipitation coming down this month.

Estevan may have seen the last rain in what has been a dry October with a system coming through the early morning hours on Tuesday.

That system came down while temperatures were close to freezing, but avoided turning into freezing rain or snow.

Christy Climenhagen, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, talks about the full outlook from the precipitation.

"Yesterday we saw a system roll through bringing a little more precipitation into the earlier morning hours, then through the day of that area just sparse showers here and there. When we're looking at our 48-hour totals just so we could catch the earlier morning stuff yesterday, it looks like the Estevan area got about 4mm of rain."

"So not a huge amount, but definitely a little bit of moisture out there. Looking at elsewhere in Saskatchewan, it looks like the extreme southern swaths of the province really are what got the bulk of the precipitation. Most areas in that got 5mm or less amount."

Climenhagen says that while the storm was weak it's not too far off what we'd expect in the fall.

"It's a little bit less than what you call a real storm, I'd say it was a low-pressure system and did bring with it a little bit of that moisture but not really a lot to speak of with this one."

The rest of the week is likely to be dry, says Climenhagen, with only a small chance of rain before the month ends.

"Next week it's a little bit difficult to say at this point. Likely, you'll see maybe a little bit of precipitation here or there through the prairies, but things have been changing around quite a bit. We don't really have a lock on exactly what we'll see but expect a little more settled weather into your next work weekend towards the end of the month."
