Two southwest athletes and a local coach received significant awards at the Saskatchewan Athletics annual awards banquet this past weekend.

Swift Current's Kyler Duclos was recognized for his performance in the long jump, triple jump, and the 100-meter sprint, securing him U16 Male Track Athlete of the Year as well as Male Field Athlete of the Year.

Olivia Dyrland from the Town of Kyle was awarded U16 Female Field Athlete of the Year for her performance in discus.

Mandi Tuplin, track and field coach at SCCHS, received Female Coach of the Year as well as a Coaching Excellence Award for her role in coaching a national medalist.

"It was a really great banquet," she said. "Overall, I would say in Swift Current and the southwest we've had a very successful year in track and field."

Tuplin noted that both Duclos and Dyrland plan to continue competing in track and field and hope to see another successful season this spring.
