With temperatures dipping down into negative numbers every night the season is starting to feel closer and closer to the usual winter chill.
After a warmer season leading up to the fall, the temperatures have been above the seasonal average.
Christ Climenhagen, a scientist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, says this week that the situation is likely to change.
"We are in a bit of a cooler pattern. So you're going to see some temperatures, you know, peaking towards that high single digits or maybe 10° during the day and then some cooler overnight lows, you know, dipping into the minus single digits, you know, even towards Friday night, chillier conditions towards about -8, which is a little bit below seasonal."
After that dip in temperature, we'll see a bit more relative warmth come in through the last weekend of October.
"We are a little cooler, our daily highs, not so much, but our overnight lows a little cool through the rest of the week, and then we'll see another bump up in our temperature as we head into the weekend. Things are a little bit milder overnight, closer to the freezing mark and temperatures looking pretty nice right through the end of the weekend, even into the mid-teens. So so a little bit of everything before we get into next week, which could be a little more unsettled."
Fully predicting the weather ahead of the end of the month is tricky for Environment Canada with Climenhagen saying they'll watch for any more precipitation or drops in temperature.
"Next week it's a little bit difficult to say at this point we likely. You'll see maybe a little bit of precipitation here or there through the prairies, but things have been changing around quite a bit. We don't really have a lock on exactly what we'll see, but expect a little more settled weather into your next work weekend towards the end of the month.
