The Town of Blackfalds and Lacombe County have reached a new Fire Services Agreement.
The new agreement is based on a fee-for-service model rather than annual support.
Over the past few years, the number of calls in Lacombe County has averaged 50 per cent.
The current revenue from Lacombe County amounts to around $68,500 per year, depending on calls.
The new agreement is comprised of two parts. One is the fixed cost of running the fire hall, estimated at $82,000. Secondly, the fire call response rates within Lacombe County will be billed at provincial rates, which is estimated to be $113,000 (Based on 2023 fire calls).
The proposed agreement includes Lacombe County contributing to the Town of Blackfalds' Fire Hall equity. The agreement indicates 50% equity at $1,370,620. Additionally, the Town will buy out the joint-use equipment from Lacombe County for $195,115.
Lacombe County approved the agreement at the Oct. 10, 2024 meeting, while Blackfalds town council approved it Oct. 22.
The new Fire Services Agreement ends December 31, 2044.
