The final touches are being made to the Gary Moe Auto Group Sportsplex in Lacombe in preparation for the Pan Continental Curling Championships, which get underway this weekend.
"The arena has been completely transformed into four competition sheets of curling ice and our curling club has five competition-level sheets of ice as well," said co-chair Chantelle Bowman. "Today all the teams are actually moving into the facility as well and getting settled in. We're starting our practices over on the B side as well."
Bowman says the A Division will be playing on the Echo Energy Arena 1, while the B Division will occupy the Lacombe Curling Club.
"World Curling has brought in a couple head ice techs and assistant ice techs and then we have some of our local people supporting them on their ice teams to make and maintain the ice throughout the competition," explained Bowman.

She notes there are viewing options for the public for both sides and people can go back and forth between the venues to watch any game they like.
There will be limited access to the building, with security checkpoints set up near the dressing rooms. Access will be restricted to the lobby of the curling club, however seating will be available in the lounge. VIP parking will also be available.
Bowman notes that ticket sales have been going very well, and there are still daily ticket options available as well as full event packages for the round-robin or playoffs. Individual draw tickets will be available at the door.
Over 250 volunteers will be helping out throughout the week to help make the event a success.
