The Red Deer Rebels improved their record to 5-1 against the Medicine Hat Tigers so far this season with a 4-2 win Friday night at Peavey Mart Centrium.

The win improved the Rebels overall record to 7-4-1-0, placing them in top spot in the Central Division with 15 points. Medicine Hat falls to 6-6 and sits in third spot in the Central with 12 points.

Jhett Larson opened up the scoring for the Rebels 57 seconds into the first with his third goal of the season.

The Tigers would battle back with a pair of goals in the opening frame, one of those on the power play, to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

The Rebels tied it up at 10:59 of the second with a goal by Jaxon Fuder on the power play.

Carson Birnie netted the game-winning goal for the home side a few minutes later.

Red Deer would add an empty netter by Ollie Josephson to seal the victory.

The Rebels finished the night 1-for-3 on the power play, while Medicine Hat was 1-for-2. The Tigers outshot the Rebels on the night 42-33.

Next up, Red Deer is in Lethbridge on Saturday, Oct. 26 to face the Hurricanes at 6 p.m.

On Saturday future stars go head-to-head at the Peavey Mart Centrium in the WHL Cup semi-finals with Team Alberta meeting Team Saskatchewan at 1:15 P.M., followed by Team B.C. taking on Team Manitoba at 4 P.M. The tournament for the top under-16 males of the western provinces will wrap up on Sunday.
