Long-time Saskatchewan Party MLA Jim Reiter will return for another term in the legislature after Monday’s provincial election.
"It feels really good," Reiter said. "I appreciate the faith the constituents have placed in me, and I'm going to work my hardest."
The latest results from Elections Saskatchewan show Reiter with 3843 votes from 23 of 31 voting stations reporting in the Rosetown-Delisle constituency. The NDP’s Brenda Edel was second with 1360 votes followed by the Green Party’s Sean Muirhead with 158.
"I can't tell you how appreciative I am of that confidence," Reiter said. "It's humbling. I appreciate it very much. I think the best way I can show that appreciation is to be the best representative I can be and work as hard as I can."
Reiter was first elected in 2007 in what was then the Rosetown-Elrose riding and has served in cabinet as Minister of Highways and Infrastructure and Minister of Health among other portfolios.
It's a closer election this time around and that is something the Saskatchewan Party will address regardless of the final provincial result.
"I think what we're going to have to do is what we always do after an election," Reiter said. "We do a deep dive into what happened and why and what areas and what were the key issues. We kind of review and see if we're on the right path on those particular issues. That review will be done fairly soon. We'll have lots of discussions in the coming weeks and months about it."
Reiter celebrated with friends and campaign workers at the Legion in Rosetown.
