2024 is peak election season in southeast Saskatchewan. With the provincial election now wrapped up, the community is now shifting their focus towards the upcoming civic election. Residents throughout the city had a chance to get to know their candidates on October 16 with an election town hall held at the Wylie Mitchell Hall. Advanced polls will be available today and tomorrow at City Hall from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. A drive-thru polling station will also be available on Saturday, November 2 at the Estevan Fire Hall from 11:00 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Over the last few weeks, DiscoverEstevan sat down with the 13 candidates who will be on this year's ballot to help the community be informed about who they will be voting for. Each candidate was asked questions about why they ran, the community issues they're looking to address once elected, and how they will unite the community.

There will also be a plebiscite on the ballot this year, seeking input from the voters on whether the community would support the construction of a new ice surface. The question will appear as follows:
"Would you support the construction of a third indoor ice facility in the City of Estevan?"
- Yes
- No
It's important to note that the plebiscite is non-binding. City Clerk Judy Pilloud and the previous city council has clarified that, regardless of the outcome of the plebiscite, no action will be taken. It will be up to the newly elected council to determine whether they would proceed or not.
