The strong play of the Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings throughout October is getting recognition from not just around the province, but around the nation.

Over the course of the past month, a member of the team has been named the league’s Most Valuable Player of the Week three times – Jerome Maharaj, Jaxson Ruthven, and Dazza Mitchell. As well, Max Chakrabarti has been named the defenseman of the week twice, and Angelo Zol the goaltender of the week twice.

Then, there is the play of Ethan Dekay and Maharaj. In the 11 games the two have played this month, Dekay has 11 goals and 7 assists, while Maharaj has 2 goals and 14 assists. The play of Jaxson Ruthven can’t be overlooked either, as he has notched 6 goals and 5 assists in nine games.

The contributions that have made the Red Wings the top-scoring team in the SJHL aren’t just limited to those three. Chakrabarti and Lucas Schmid have 4 goals and 8 assists each, and Liam Fitzgerald has also chipped in 5 goals and 6 assists.

The goaltending duo of Mitchell and Zol have also been phenomenal. They have combined for a save percentage of .945 in the month of October, and a goals-against average of 2.08. Their prowess has been a key reason for their success.

All of the hard work is paying off, and even on the national stage are the Red Wings being recognized. They were named in the CJHL Top 20 rankings for this week, coming in at 20th. They are one of two teams from the SJHL in the rankings, with the Melfort Mustangs sitting in 12th.

The Red Wings will be hoping to carry over the success into their next set of games. They will be on the road this coming weekend in Kindersley. They play the Klippers on Friday and again Saturday. You will be able to catch all the action on Great Plains Ford Red Wing Radio.
