Lacombe City Council approved renovations to the front office and foyer in city hall, to improve the customer experience of residents.
The plans were first identified in 2023, with three designs presented to council for review.
One of the designs was chosen for its functionality, security, and modernization, however, bids were over budget, leading to a project deferral.
Two previously qualified construction companies submitted updated bids, with IMC Construction Ltd., recommended for its lower cost.
The city worked with a designer to scale the project to fit the existing budget.

The renovation focuses on Finance and Planning and Development Department spaces, prioritizing functionality and securing access to staff areas.
"Doing business at the City of Lacombe should be easy, convenient, and safe for our residents and staff," Mayor Grant Creasey said. "These improvements will ensure our City Hall remains accessible, and functional for everyone. Most importantly, these renovations will extend the viability of this facility, allowing it to continue to serve taxpayers for the foreseeable future."
No additional funding was allocated. The design is within the previously budgeted $562,000.
The design includes more functional space, additional meeting space, public access to services from one counter, a barrier-free counter, and limited access to staff areas for improved safety.
The renovation project is expected to take three months, with the crew working around the city’s needs and operations.
