Estevan Police Service handled a range of incidents over the weekend, including impaired driving, domestic disturbances, drug trafficking, and a late-night party bus warning, marking a busy and varied round of calls for officers.
On Oct. 25, police were dispatched to a residence for a report of a domestic disturbance. A 22-year-old man was arrested for mischief and lodged in cells. The matter remains under investigation.
Officers responded to a collision involving a parked car in the 700 block of Kings Street. Witnesses said the driver of the vehicle may have been impaired. A 42-year-old Estevan man was arrested for impaired driving and taken to the police station, where two breath samples indicated he was nearly three times the legal limit. He was lodged in cells and released when sober. No injuries were reported, but the parked vehicle sustained significant damage.
On Oct. 26, police received a report of an erratic driver travelling south on Highway 39 towards Estevan from Midale. Estevan Police Service officers and RCMP patrolled the area, but the vehicle was not located.
Police also responded to a report of a suspicious person possibly trespassing in a vacant building. Members attended and located a man who was hired to complete renovations inside.
Officers were dispatched to a residence in central Estevan for a report of a possible domestic dispute. Police spoke with all parties involved and determined that a verbal argument had taken place. The matter was mediated, and one occupant left the residence for the night.
A traffic stop was conducted in the 900 block of Henry Street to check for sobriety. An approved screening device demand was made of the female driver, but she failed to provide an adequate breath sample. The 28-year-old woman was arrested and charged under the Criminal Code with refusal/failure to provide a sample. She was lodged in cells and will be released with a court date in December.
Members responded to a local bar following a report of a fight involving four to five people. After speaking with several witnesses, police were unable to determine exactly what had occurred. One man sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention. Taxi cabs were called to take some of the people involved home.
While on patrol near bar closing time, police observed a woman dancing on top of a party bus. Occupants were seen drinking in the vehicle. All occupants were warned about their actions, and the remaining alcohol was seized.
Police attempted a traffic stop on a red truck seen leaving a hotel parking lot. The truck fled and was last seen travelling at high speed through a residential area. Following an investigation, police were able to identify the driver. The matter is still under investigation.
The following day, around 8 a.m., police located the vehicle that had fled from officers. A 27-year-old man from Lampman was arrested and is facing charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and operation of a conveyance while impaired by drugs. The man was also on a conditional sentence order, and further investigation led to charges of trafficking cocaine and possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000. He was remanded for court and is scheduled to appear at a later date.
Police also received a report of four youths banging on a window and shooting what was believed to be a BB gun at a residence in the Hillcrest area. Members attended and spoke with the complainant, but no damage was reported. The youths were not located in the immediate area.
