While much of Saskatchewan is likely to see snow this weekend, the southeast will probably get some familiar rains.

With the months shifting soon, colder weather will be bringing snow to Saskatchewan once precipitation is overhead.

Many areas of the province have already seen some drop and are expecting more as part of a wide system coming to Saskatchewan this weekend.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Danielle Desjardins says that in the southeast that system will be a bit different.

"We have a little bit of warm air coming in for Saturday, so we're expecting a high of 11. That's ahead of the system that we're tracking that's coming in from the South, which will bring some precipitation on Sunday, but that will stay rain, especially in southern Saskatchewan as you head into central Saskatchewan, there could be a mix and then it will snow in the north."

So far the system is shifting so Desjardins won't know how hard that rain will be until we get closer to the weekend.

"With this system, it's really going to depend on the track. There's still a little bit of uncertainty this far out, so it really depends where it sets up, whether it's southeast Saskatchewan or if it tracks more into Manitoba. So it looks like you will get some showers, but how hard, how much, and how consistent, that's a little little bit uncertain at this time."

While the southeast will be free of snow Desjardins warns people that the rain we do see is likely to freeze overnight and create some slippery conditions.

"If the showers materialize on Sunday, it looks like the overnight period. If there's any leftover precipitation, if it's still wet on the roads, it could freeze overnight, so could be slippery, but again it's a little bit far out to see exactly where those showers will set up."
