The City of Estevan unveiled their new AED machine at Churchill Park today, funded through a grant by CPKC.
At the event, Helen Fornwald spoke about how the device helps out the community, with Mayor Roy Ludwig and Estevan EMS paramedic Brad Robinson also speaking.
During the event, Fornwald talked about the unit and what it brings to the community.
"When you open the cabinet, it is it's an AED that will kickstart your heart and it's crucial within the four to six minutes that CPR has started. It is proven across the country that it has saved lives."
"We're hoping people will take advantage of it then when they need it because Churchill is a terrific area. Our pathway system here is open 12 months a year. It's always very busy in the summertime with a new shock here and upgrades to Churchill Park. It's just going to be fantastic."
The city already has a number of AED devices across the city, with this being the first unit accessible at any time.
"Right now, we have AEDs in all of our recreational facilities. We have in City Hall, in the police station, in the fire hall. We have several at the leisure center, Affinity Place. We have one at the Estevan Art Gallery and Museum, Souris Valley Museum, we have one at the airport, so we've got quite a number of them."
"This is the first of one that's accessible for 24 hours a day. The others are just within operation of the facility, but this one can be accessible seven days a week, 24 hours a day."
