An attempted vehicle theft in Sylvan Lake on Thursday could have been much worse.
RCMP received the report around 4 p.m., that a vehicle was stolen in the area of Reynolds Road with children still inside the vehicle.
Shortly after driving away, the suspect abandoned the vehicle in an alleyway and fled on foot.
Officers attended the scene and conducted a Police Dog Services track, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The children inside the vehicle were unharmed.
The suspect is described as
- Approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall
- Medium build
- Wearing a heavy dark coloured jacket with a hood, a brown flat brim baseball hat, blue jeans and white shoes with a black mark near the heal
Anyone with information or surveillance footage in the area of Reynolds Road between 3:45 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. are asked to contact Sylvan Lake RCMP at 403-887-3333.

Alberta RCMP have launched CAPTURE (Community Assisted Policing Through the Use of Recorded Evidence) throughout the Province and it is being used in Sylvan Lake.
CAPTURE is a voluntary surveillance camera registry program, which allows residents and businesses with surveillance to register the location of their cameras to assist RCMP with investigations and keep the community safe.
Any contact information or video cameras registered on the website will not be available to the public.
