The Crossfield Fire Department has opened up its recruitment process.
Bill Messner, the Crossfield Fire Chief shared they are looking for firefighters who live in and outside of Crossfield, as you don't have to live in the town to become one.
"The goal is to just increase staffing levels to aid in support of further fire protection for the town. I hope to add 10-12 firefighters, but it depends on applicants."
He went on to talk about some minimum requirements they have including standard first aid and CPR.
"Applicants are to be 18 years of age or older. We require them to have a class five driver's license and a valid driver's license. We would like to see physically fit applicants who can meet the requirements of a firefighter."
A big component that Messner is looking for is a passion for community service.
"We also look for people who have good life experience and people who can work well under pressure."
There is extensive training, and it is a time commitment, he explained, but basic firefighting qualifications will be provided. It is a volunteer position so you respond to calls when needed.

Crossfield is just one of a few surrounding communities looking for firefighters. Didsbury and Carstairs have also put out the call for recruits.
