SaskPower will once again be providing residents with a reduction in the federal carbon tax following the Saskatchewan Party's reelection.
As of today, SaskPower will be providing a 60 per cent reduction in federal carbon tax for customers who use electricity as their main source of home heating.
SaskPower will be keeping this pricing in place until April 30th of next year.
SaskPower calculated that 60 per cent reduction based on the typical percentage of power consumption required for home heating. They say that customers could save up to $21 per month based on the change, dependent on the current weather conditions.
Based on their program last year, they estimate that up to 35,000 customers rely on electric heat. For those customers who have previously been identified as relying on electric heat, the program will be automatically applied to their bills. SaskPower states that last year the program provided $1.3 million in relief to its customers.
