Estevan Fire Rescue (EFR) was active last week, responding to a range of emergency calls throughout the city.

On October 28, 2024, just before 8 a.m., EFR was dispatched to a commercial fire alarm in the central part of the city. Upon investigation, no emergency was found, and a possible issue with the alarm system was noted.

The following day, around 11 a.m., EFR was requested to a commercial property in the north end of the city to investigate an odour. A duty officer responded and determined there was no fire; the smell was caused by cleaning chemicals.

Three calls came in on October 31. The first was at 7 p.m., when EFR was dispatched for an elevator rescue in the northeast area of the city. Crews responded and quickly removed the occupants of the elevator without incident. At 10:45 p.m., crews responded to a single-vehicle rollover south of the city, assisting at the scene. No entrapment or injuries were reported. At 11 p.m. the same day, EFR responded to a two-vehicle collision, providing assistance. There were no entrapments or injuries reported. No Halloween incidents took place that day.

On November 1, 2024, at around 1:15 p.m., EFR was requested to investigate smoke coming from the northwest area of the city. A duty officer responded and determined that improper burning was occurring in the backyard of a residence. The homeowner was asked to extinguish the fire and was advised about the fire pit permit and burning bylaws within the city.

Shortly after, at 1:30 p.m., EFR was dispatched to a grass fire southwest of the city. Crews responded and worked to extinguish the fire. No injuries or damages were reported, and crews were on scene for approximately three hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
