Q. Why are you running for mayor/council?
A. I chose to run for council again because I felt I have something to offer as a city councillor. I am a common sense problem solver with a business background. I love this community and will put its citizens first when making decisions about the city and the those who live here.
Q. Do you have experience in public service/community boards/politics?
A. I sat on city council between 2020 and 2024 and while doing that was on several boards and committees. I was the national president and board chair of the Canadian Fence Builders Association, a board member of Moose Jaw Families for Change, and most recently was on the board of the Moose Jaw Construction Association.
Q. Do you think experience matters one way or another?
A. I honestly don't think previous council experience matters to sit on council. I will add though, that the first term is difficult without that experience and the learning curve is steep. I have been told by former councillors that if you are fortunate enough to be elected for a second term, that is when you are can really start to make a difference.
Q. What topic/policy issue/incident was the tipping point for you?
A. There was no tipping point for me. In my opinion if you go into council shortsighted with one issue on your mind then you are going to be in over your head and will be doing a disservice to the citizens.
Q. What criticisms do you have, if any, for the politics you've seen over the last two or three years?
A. I maybe could have done a couple things differently during my first term as councillor. Hindsight being 20/20 makes it easy to critique but I've learned lots during the last four years and am willing to work hard again if the people will allow me the opportunity.
Q. What is your plan to compromise/cooperate with fellow council members to accomplish policy goals?
A. If elected, we all have to compromise and cooperate or its very difficult to accomplish anything. City council is a lot of teamwork, collaboration and cooperation. You could have the best idea but if you are unwilling to cooperate and work as a team the idea will die on the corner of your desk. I feel that I have the skillset to be able to problem solve, work as a team and be open minded during the decision-making process.
Q. What else do you want voters to know about you?
A. I am an entrepreneur of 29 years who was born and raised in Moose Jaw. Together with my wife Sheri we have raised our family here. I am honest, relatable, open minded and dedicated. I support economic growth and have a community first common sense approach.
Q. In the interests of transparency, are you coordinating or do you share an association with any other candidates, in any way whatsoever?
A. I am not. I have sat on committees with some of the candidates in the past and am friends with others, but we are not coordinating together in any way.
