The Town of Sylvan Lake is determined to set a new world record for the longest line of pumpkins this year.
To set the new record, Sylvan Lake and area residents are encouraged to bring their pumpkins, carved or uncarved, to Lions Park to help build the pumpkin trail until Nov. 7.
“It's a great way for the community to be involved in creating a group project and it creates a nice fall-themed activity,” said Natasha Bhola, Town of Sylvan Lake Tourism Marketing and Development Coordinator.
An official count will be held on Nov. 8, weather-dependent, and then the community can come pick up the leftover pumpkins.
“There are straw bales left on the streets, which often are used for agriculture purposes,” Bhola said.
The record for the longest trail to beat is 8,672 pumpkins from Minnesota and 4,164 carved pumpkins from the United Kingdom.
The pumpkin trail in Sylvan Lake began in 2020 with 661, and since then it has grown to nearly 2,000 pumpkins.
“We are always trying to break the world record for the longest line of pumpkins. We usually end up with around 1,500 pumpkins,” Bhola said.
