The president of the Royal Canadian Legion Lacombe Branch #79 says they have a "simple yet meaningful ceremony" planned for Monday, November 11th.

Kathy Hobbs notes the service will take place at the Lacombe Memorial Centre starting at 10:30 a.m.

She encourages people to come early.

"We have thousands that come and we go into the overflow room as well."

Hobbs says at 10:30 a.m. the Red Deer & District Pipe Band will be bringing in the Colour Party which includes the Lacombe Police Service, RCMP, Lacombe Fire Department, and EMS personnel.

"At 11 o'clock we will have our two minutes of silence," noted Hobbs. "We read off the roll call of the honoured dead from WWI, WWII, the Korean War, as well as Afghanastan war, from this area."

The Girl Guides will also be reciting In Flanders Fields

"We do the active remembrance, of course, that we will always keep the memory of the sacrifice alive and then we have a youth commitment to remember, that's the response to that. That's usually done by uniformed cadets, and again it's the promise that we will never forget the sacrifice made. After all, that's what Remembrance Day is about."

Legion members will be at the door distributing programs for the day. The Lacombe Lions Community Band will be performing from 10 a.m. until the March On The Colours. The Lions Community Band will do the conclusion as well.
