Estevan residents are invited to participate in the upcoming Municipal All Candidates Forum, organized by the Estevan Chamber of Commerce, taking place tomorrow night at the Royal Canadian Legion at 7 p.m. This event presents a valuable opportunity for voters to engage directly with candidates vying for municipal office.

The forum will be structured in two sections: the first will focus on mayoral candidates, followed by a segment dedicated to those running for council positions.

“The Estevan Chamber of Commerce hosts political forums to serve our members and the community. It is part of our focus on advocacy,” said Merissa Scarlett, executive director of the Estevan Chamber of Commerce. “Forums like this are vital to the election process and democracy as they provide an opportunity for voters to learn and make informed decisions.”

Participants can expect each candidate to deliver an opening statement, respond to questions posed by the Chamber, and engage in an open floor session where attendees can ask questions directly.

In light of the strong community interest, the forum will feature questions aimed at challenging candidates and stimulating discussion. The event is open to all eligible voters in Estevan, encouraging community participation and raising awareness of the candidates.

"All candidates will answer the same prepared question and then we have a couple unprepared questions. They'll answer, but the majority of the time will be given to the floor for the public to speak and ask those questions."

For those who cannot attend in person, the forum will be live streamed on the Access Now YouTube channel, starting at 7 p.m., with a recording available for later viewing. “Municipal politics are the ones that impact you on your day-to-day. This is an important decision, and I hope it gets people interested in voting,” said Scarlett.

With a large slate of candidates this election cycle, the All Candidates Forum is an essential platform for residents to hear directly from each candidate about key issues that affect daily life, such as snow removal, waste management, infrastructure maintenance, recreation facilities, parks, and community safety.
