Lacombe's auto dealerships are gearing up for their annual shopping cart parade in support of the Lacombe Food Bank.

The parade, taking place on Nov. 15th, is sponsored by Gary Moe Auto Group, Empire Auto Sales, and Weidner Motors.

This year $8,500 was donated to the cause, which will see shopping carts and trucks filled with groceries from No Frills and then pushed down the street by volunteers to the Lacombe Food Bank with the help of a police escort.

Volunteers will gather at No Frills at 12:15 p.m. to load the carts. The parade will travel down Highway Street before heading west on 54th Ave, then ending at the food bank.

"We thought that we'd just get it on the go before Christmas," explained organizer Susan Canning. "A lot of times people do it at Christmas time, which is okay, but they're actually short at the moment too. That's why we did it a little bit earlier plus we want to be able to go with our shopping carts down there."

Onlookers are also encouraged to toss a food donation in the carts as the parade makes its way through town.

"Let's just think about giving from our hearts to people that are down and out and how much we have in the world," added Canning. "Let's just help the ones that don't have as much."
