CPKC is gearing up for their holiday train travelling around North America for its 26th consecutive year.

That'll bring Seaforth and Alana Springsteen to the southeast, who will stop off in North Portal on December 18th at noon and again later that day in Estevan at 2:30 p.m.

Terry Cunha, a spokesperson with the CPKC, talks about how the event can help out those in need across the country.

"The CPKC holiday train is going to begin rolling out starting on November 21st. We get the opportunity to engage with thousands of people along our network, all to raise money and donations for local food banks at each and every one of our 167 stops this year."

Cunha says they've put a lot of work into the train with the musical talent ready to roll.

"It is a fully decorated and lit up CPKC train that has Christmas lights from front to back with beautiful imagery and lights, and then at each stop the doors open and we have two very talented musical artists this year."

"We'll have Seaforth and Alana Springsteen performing a 30-minute musical act where they'll be singing some of their hits, but also many favourite Christmas favourites, just to help celebrate and engage the community during the Christmas season. As I mentioned, these are all free shows that all we ask is for individuals to bring a non-perishable food item for the local food bank."

Cunha says he expects the night to be one to remember even if the weather starts to act up.

"It fluctuates, but it doesn't matter the temperature. The community continues to come out and support a very important cause and participate in that great family activity where you get to engage and celebrate the holiday season with fellow community members and then participate in the free musical acts and concerts, which is a very great way to kick off the holiday season."

Anyone looking to take part is asked to donate some canned food for the local food banks,

"I just want to stress that these are all family friendly and all free, and we do encourage members who come out for the show just to bring a non-perishable food item to help the local food bank as we all can appreciate, during the holiday season, food insecurity does become an issue."

"These are just a great cause and one that we're very thrilled with this being the 26th year we've been able to make we believe a very strong contribution to helping the food banks across our network. So just continue to encourage members of the community to help a very important cause this year."
