In next week’s school board elections in the Horizon School Division, there are two candidates seeking the trustee position for Subdivision 4.
Subdivision 4 includes communities, Drake, Lanigan, Muenster, Englefeld and Watson.
Mark Fedak of Lanigan has been the trustee for Subdivision 4 for the past 8 years and is currently the board vice-chair. Fedak possesses over 29 years of administrative experience with towns and the Horizon School Division. He is also the SSBA appointee on the Municipal Employees Pension Plan.
Fedak says with financial and community background, he would ensure educational funding is spent for the direct benefit and well-being of all students as well continue to be an advocate for classroom complexity.
The other candidate is Christiaan Mau, a rancher from Guernsey. Along with his wife, they had four daughters who attended Drake Elementary School and Lanigan Central High School. Mau has been involved in both community’s SCC, 7.5 years in Drake and 1.5 years in Lanigan.
Mau says rural schools face many specific needs and challenges and is committed to hearing those concerns and representing them at the board level. Mau added that he would strive that each community, school, educator, family, parent, and most importantly student, feels valued and supported.
