Estevan Comprehensive School's career fair saw a number of displays set up to help students decide where they wanted to end up in their future.

67 displays were laid out over the ECS gymnasium, ranging from post-secondary schools to local businesses.

Officer Ward with the Canada Border Services Agency says that they saw a lot of interest.

"Everyone's been very interested, looking around or I think they're figuring out where everybody is first, and then they're gonna figure out what they want."

A lot of booths also had exhibits set up, including SaskPower which took a look at some of their facilities that run at the Boundary Dam.

Afzal Hossain, a senior engineer with SaskPower, says that their booth saw a lot of kids coming around.

"I'm seeing a lot of interest from the kids, like on the (Power Line Technician) side. So we have some demonstration going on the live demonstration, so they are really curious about that one. On the engineering side, we also got a few questions from [students], so it's nice to see the interest from them."

Post-secondary institutions were also well-represented, with colleges and universities from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba. Andrea Barrientos, a student recruiter from the University of Regina, is happy to see so many students get a wide variety of options at the event.

"It is great that they have a wide variety of institutions coming up to Estevan. It's been going well, students have the chance to explore different options and learn from specifically the people who are experts in that field. So I think students are enjoying it and we are very happy to be having the opportunity to come here and share all of those opportunities with students."

The event also featured some local businesses, including those who set up a display at the fair for the first time this year. Brad Pierson, General Manager of Murray GM Estevan, says that a lot of great workers can come straight from high school.

"I think a lot of people don't know is 70 per cent of kids roughly coming out of school aren't going to post-secondary. So, we train people at a post-secondary level, but they don't need post-secondary to join us. We offer so many different angles when it comes to automotive, from people fixing cars to people answering the phones, doing accounting, selling, I could go on and on and on."

"We have four to eight staff in our building and only a few people do the same thing. We thought we were a great fit for this career fair and show people that they don't need to come to us with a degree, but we can bring them up to speed and send them off to school and get a degree in the specific region of the dealership they're looking for. It's just all around a great deal for us. I think it's a great deal for the young kids about to move on in their life," Pierson expressed.
