The Wetaskiwin RCMP have laid charges in connection to the Nov. 7, residential fire at a multiplex on 55 avenue.

The Wetaskiwin and Millet Fire Departments utilized numerous resources to put out the fire, impacting five residences. 

RCMP investigators determined that the origin of the fire was suspicious.

A police investigation lead to an arrest warrant being issued for Wetaskiwin resident, 25-year-old Clayton Courtright for Arson with Disregard for Human Life.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Courtright is asked to contact the Wetaskiwin RCMP at 780-312-7267.

RCMP officers remained on the scene Friday (Nov. 8) morning at a house fire that started Thursday (Nov. 7) afternoon in Wetaskiwin.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, RCMP received a report of a residential fire at 5210 55th Ave.

Police noted that everyone was evacuated safely from the multi-unit dwelling but reported that multiple dwellings were damaged by the fire.

RCMP said the circumstances surrounding the fire appeared to be suspicious, as the investigation continued.

The cause of the fire had not yet been determined.
