Voters are getting ready to hit the polls today after a month and a half of candidates pleading their case to the public. 13 candidates will be vying for a seat in council as the mayor or a councillor.
Where to vote
The City of Estevan has arranged a few places for the public to cast their ballot. A super poll will be set up at the Church of God on 1920 Wellock Road between 9:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Two drive-thru polling places will be set up during Election Day.
- Estevan Fire Hall - 801 13th Avenue between 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
- Suds Zone Car Wash - 238 4th Street between 9:30 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Forms of Identification
In most cases, your government-issued ID will be sufficient for you to cast your ballot. According to the City's website, here's a list of accepted IDs you can use to vote:
- A valid Saskatchewan Driver’s Licence. (If you still have a two-piece licence, make sure you have both pieces).
- A valid Saskatchewan ID card issued by SGI or any motor licence issuer. (Available for $10 or free for seniors).
- Any other valid government-issued photo ID issued by a Canadian government whether federal, provincial or municipal, or an agency of that government, so long as it includes your name and address.
You can also vote with other documents like:
- Valid ID cards or certificates issued by the Canadian or Saskatchewan government, a Saskatchewan municipality or school division, a Saskatchewan Indian band, the Métis Nation of Saskatchewan or an agency of one of these entities.
- Personal correspondence, benefit/contribution statements and tax/assessment notices issued by any of the above entities.
- Bank/credit union cards, credit cards and statements.
- Utility bills and statements issued within six months of the date of the election.
- Personalized attestation of residence, letter of stay or admission form issued by a seniors or student residence, long-term care or shelter facility.
It's important to note that you cannot vote with an ID that is expired or not original. It also must include your current Estevan address. City Clerk Judy Pilloud noted that if you don't live in the city but own property here, you must bring a copy of your tax notice to ensure you're entitled to vote. A full list of eligible forms of identification can be found here.
