On Nov. 7, at 12:11 p.m., the Innisfail RCMP and Innisfail Fire and Rescue responded to a single vehicle semi roll over.
A loaded cattle truck was driving west bound on the highway 590 overpass when the driver failed to navigate the south turn onto the QEII highway.
The semi-truck rolled onto its side and the 75 cattle (calves) were trapped inside the trailer.
The driver was taken to Innisfail hospital with what is believed to be minor injuries.
Innisfail Fire and Rescue, Red Deer County fire and Rescue and Red Deer County Livestock Response Unit worked with the local Innisfail Auction Mart to free the cattle and safely move them into additional trailers for transport.
Local veterinarians were called in to assist with the welfare of the animals.
Approximately 12 calves were found to be deceased.
Innisfail RCMP are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision
