The Portage Terriers picked up their 10th win in a row on Monday night beating the Winnipeg Freeze 6-2.

The Freeze started off strong with Ben Whitford opening the scoring midway through the first period. Portage appeared to gain their footing after allowing the first goal. Scott Cousins tied the game with his second of the season and then Caleb Lepitre scored his first of the year on a delayed penalty. The Terriers outshot the Freeze 20-10 in the first period.

The second period continued the way the first ended. Portage scored four unanswered goals from Nolan Nenow, Lepitre, Tristan Gravenor and Jacob Michelson. After Gravenor’s goal, he dropped the gloves with Christian Crutcher and they were both done for the night. 6-1 Portage after 2.

With the game locked down, the Terriers gave more minutes to their bottom six and strolled to victory. Winnipeg added one more goal from Nicholas Cullen but it was too little too late.

Ryan Velan stopped 28 shots for his fifth win of the year. The Terrier power play was 0/3 but the penalty kill was a perfect 4/4.

Portage will host the Winnipeg Blues on Wednesday night at 7:30pm.
