This month's Write Out Loud will cover topics of immigration, economic hardship, finding success as a woman, and how one decision can invite lifetimes of hardship.

The story Yes, Miss Thompson, follows the details of Marjorie Thompson. A woman who immigrated to Canada as a child, and grew to become a successful teacher and principal in the 1930's. Based on the real-life story of the author, Amy Boyes, great-grandmother, it delves into how multiple generations were affected by Thompson's choice to marry an alcoholic, and the great stressors placed upon her life.

For Boyes, the chance to uncover and learn so much about her family, especially her great-grandmother, was an inspiring experience.

"It's my own experiences digging into the past, and then in another layer, my great grandmother's life reimagined in narrative form," said Boyes.

Yes, Miss Thomspon was published in 2023. Boyes has written one other book, titled Micro Miracle about the birth of Boyes' daughter.

During her Wrtie Out Loud appearance, she will discuss her process of writing Yes, Miss Thompson, and how she went about her research. People will be able to not only discuss the book but listen in as she does a live reading.
