The southeast is likely to get a good taste of winter soon as a Colorado low system is baring down on the area this weekend.
The system, expected to come through on Saturday, will see snowfall begin once the temperatures plunge overnight.
Stephen Berg, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, talks about what we'll see headed into the weekend.
"There's a Colorado low that's coming up from the southwest for the weekend and initially it'll be a bit rainy, but then transition to snow, I guess by Saturday, and might give amounts of up to about 5 to 15 centimetres within the system."
"Looking like it'll be a fairly warm next or a couple of days after that, so there's a possibility that all that snow might melt before the cooler temperatures come in around mid-next week."
With warmer temperatures during that snowfall, Berg expects that to come down as wet, heavy snow, which will be compounded by some strong winds.
"That system might see some decent gusts, maybe to about 70 or something like that, especially the Northwest early on the backside of the low as it moves into Manitoba."
With the system likely to deposit all that snow with strong winds, Berg warns people to keep an eye out for problems like broken power lines.
"It's a possibility towards Sunday into Monday, but the brunt of the snow should be passed by about kind of late day Sunday so that shouldn't be a big issue."
