A former city councillor in Swift Current is returning after a four-year hiatus.
Bruce Deg will serve a second term as a councillor thanks to the 1,456 votes cast for him, ranking him fifth in votes out of the ten candidates vying for six openings.
"I sure appreciate it," he said. "What can I say, I'm really happy they elected me."
Deg was a part of council for a single term from 2016 to 2020 when he received 1,964 ranking fourth. He fell to 10th in votes during the 2020 municipal election knocking him off the council table. Although he was defeated, he's been paying close attention to local politics.
"Our city has maybe slowed down a little bit," he said. "A lot of that has to with what we went through with COVID... I think it's time now that we can kind of explore some opportunities and try to attract some more businesses to town. That means looking after our infrastructure making sure that we have facilities and dedicated areas for the residents."
The sales contractor has worked with Ryan Plewis on council before. He is looking forward to working with Mayor Al Bridal and councillors Ryan Plewis, Ryan Switzer, Leanne Tuntland-Wiebe, Tom Christiansen, and Courtney Stewart.
"Everybody that ran for city council did it for the right reasons," he said. "I will have no problems sitting at city council with anybody. I just want to congratulate everybody that did become elected."
