The Southeast Advocates is launching its first winter clothing drive to help newcomers stay warm as colder weather sets in.

The organization is seeking gently used jackets, mitts, ski pants, and winter boots for both children and adults.

“The idea for the drive came after seeing how many people, especially newcomers, don’t have proper winter clothing when they first arrive,” said Calie-Marie Mack with Southeast Advocates. “As the weather starts to turn colder, I realized how important it is to have the right items to get through the winter.”

Donations can be dropped off at the Southeast Advocates building at 1108 6th St. in Estevan. Items will be accepted from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The group asks for gently used items that are in good condition. “We don’t want anything with rips or tears,” Mack said. “Just anything you have lying around the house that’s older, you don’t use or doesn’t fit you anymore and that could be used by someone else.”

Southeast Advocates hopes to provide warm clothing to as many community members as possible, particularly those unprepared for the cold season.

The drive offers a simple way for residents to give back and support their neighbours this winter.
