Envision Counselling & Support Centre is raising awareness about domestic violence during November’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Envision Counselling and Support Centre Inc. is raising awareness about domestic violence throughout the region during Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The organization aims to shed light on the issue and provide accessible resources for those in need.

The month serves as a reminder that violence affects people of all ages, genders, and backgrounds.

“Saskatchewan has one of the highest rates of domestic violence, and oftentimes people are suffering in silence. Being able to have these conversations and shed light on the topic just helps bring awareness,” said Laura Melle, Director of Operations for Envision.

Domestic violence is a community issue that requires action and awareness by all, emphasizing that anyone can be affected by unhealthy relationships and the trauma of violence, whether directly or indirectly.

It can also have lasting emotional and physical consequences, often hidden behind closed doors.

“We also support the secondary survivors. So, if your family member is affected or living in an abusive environment or household, sometimes the loved ones of who is impacted directly also needs some support as well,” Melle added.

Envision encourages anyone trapped in an unhealthy relationship or impacted by family violence to reach out for support, guidance, and a safe space to talk about the challenges faced by survivors and their loved ones.

“As an IVA Counsellor practicing in Saskatchewan, I see firsthand the alarming reality that domestic violence affects far too many in our own communities. Statistically, women face higher rates of violence, but it is important to understand that men and other gender-identifying individuals can experience domestic violence as well. While many incidents remain unreported, the growing demand for support services highlights the urgent need for awareness and action,” said Erin Haaland, Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Counsellor.

"Envision is here—we’re a safe, confidential, professional service that can assist those affected by family violence," said Melle.

“There is no shame in asking for help. Together, we can create a society where every individual feels safe and valued, and where domestic violence is no longer tolerated,” added Haaland.
