The postal worker's strike means that local courier services will be picking up some of the slack.
A.M. Delivery serves customers all across Saskatchewan and is based in Swift Current. Their regular workload will be taking on some of the additional packages and deliveries that cannot wait for strike action to end, bolstering their workload.
Andy Keys, owner of A.M. Delivery, doesn't think that the increase will be too big but will be noticeable.
"Each route is each route is really well timed," said Keys. "Obviously if they've gotta do 10 parcels or 100 parcels, yeah, that does impact your time that's on the road."
Keys crew has drivers that begin at 4 a.m., and don't finish till 4 p.m. He isn't too worried about the strikes affecting that time frame for now, as he has previous experience in these situations.
"We've gone through various different strikes and different people changing, different companies changing in the past," said Keys. "It doesn't really affect the out-of-town drivers too much."
The postal strike from Canada Post began today, Nov. 15, 2024. A total of 55,000 workers across Canada are participating. Strikers gave a 72-hour notice earlier this week when negotiations with their employer fell through.
He expects that any letters that can wait will do just that. Other more important mail may find its way to him and other couriers, but that will be the exception instead of the rule.
"You just can't be a dollar stamp on an envelope," said Keys.
Anyone who does have need of A.M. Delivery services can find their service routes and maps on the company website. Questions can be called into the office, where A.M. Delivery will do their best to provide answers.
