Brian Johnson is one of six councillors elected in Estevan’s civic election earlier this week.
Johnson, who previously served two terms on council, is no stranger to local politics.
“It feels really good to be re-elected to Estevan city council, and to be considered by the citizens and the business community as someone who can still contribute and add value,” Johnson said.
Looking ahead to his next term, Johnson said council will need to work together as a team to find common ground on key issues.
“We need to come together and find common ground on some of our ideas for the city of Estevan,” he said. “I think everyone is on board for completing 4th Street, understanding the costs, and looking at the 2025 budget, how it pertains to operations, revenues, and taxes moving forward.”
With a mix of new and experienced councillors, Johnson believes the council is well-positioned for success.
“The taxpayers have spoken, and we have a mix of new councillors with fresh ideas, which works well after four years. If these individuals are still here in the future, their names may come up again, ensuring continuity on council,” he said.
He added that this balance also allows for community members to consider running in the next election cycle.
“These new councillors will have a lot to learn. They’ll meet many people in the community and gain valuable experience. After four years, they’ll be well-rounded municipal councillors,” Johnson said.
