Local businesses teamed up for Lacombe’s annual shopping cart parade, providing a huge food haul to the food bank on Friday (Nov. 15).

Volunteers pushed $8,500 worth of groceries from Lionel's No Frills to the Lacombe Food Bank with the help of a police escort.

The parade was sponsored by Gary Moe Auto Group, Empire Auto Sales, and Weidner Motors.

“Today was a great success. We had a lot of help here,” said Matt Oszust, Gary Moe Chrysler General Manager. “We brought in boxes and boxes and boxes of food, a whole truckload, and it went awesome.”

This year, $3,000 was allocated for meat products.

“The food bank is really short of meat and protein, it's one of the hardest things for them to get,” Oszust said. “Lionel was able to source some really good deals on meat for the food bank.”

The shopping cart parade allows local businesses to give back to the community that supports them in a meaningful way.

“If we can help the food bank, that's the best way we can do it,” Oszust said.
