The Portage Terriers got back to their winning ways on Saturday night beating the Northern Manitoba Blizzard 3-2.

After starting slowly against the Blizzard on Friday, Portage came out much stronger in the first period. Cam Bullinger and Nolan Nenow caused a turnover in the corner and hit Scott Cousins in the slot with a pass. He made no mistake low blocker to open the scoring. The Blizzard would respond with Marlen Edwards coming out from the corner and beating Mitchell Kathler over his glove. 1-1 after 1.

Tristan Gravenor returned the lead to Portage when he perfectly finished off a pass from Decker Mujcin on a 2 on 1. Not a single penalty was called in the first period, but the game started to get more physical in the second. The Blizzard scored on a four on 3 power play to tie the game at two.

With the game tied in the third period both teams tightened up. With five minutes to go defenceman Wyatt Dreger capped off a nice passing play to make it 3-2 Portage. With the assist on the play, Koy Funk now has assists in eight straight games.

The Terriers held down the fort and picked up the win. Portage didn’t get a single power play all night.

The Terriers are now off until Wednesday when they travel to Niverville to play the Nighthawks.
