Saturday night saw over 100 people boot, scoot, and boogie at Country 94.1's first birthday party.

The lower level of the Legion in Swift Current was packed, where country music lovers came along for the ride as morning show host Chris Martens and the staff from Golden West Broadcasting hosted games, gave away prizes, and handed out cold hard cash.

The biggest prize of the night was the $941 prize awarded to Cassie Krause, who managed to find the correct snake in her boot.

Cassie is presented her winnings by Morgan Butler, station manager for Golden West Broadcasting in Swift Current.

"It's awesome!" said Krause. "If they do a second birthday, I absolutely will be back."

Krause was preceded by a host of folks winning door prizes from local sponsors, and by a large display of southwest Saskatchewan talent.

Performing live music were Darrin Schwartz of Tombstone Whiskey, Marcus Braun and band, and Evan Baxter. All three got the blood pumping and the boots stomping, playing originals, covers, and heartstrings.

"If I'm listening to the radio, I'm usually tuning into Country 94.1," said Braun. "I'm tuning into every Bronco game that I can, too. I always catch the set afterwards as well."

Hosting the evening, Martens was able to deliver commentary on the games, and prizes, and even pull Andrew McCormack on stage to deliver their regular dad joke segment. If groans and headshakes were the goal, the smiles they received may have just been a bonus.

"The biggest thing for me in coming on to the Country 94.1 morning show was fun," said Martens. "I wanna have fun! I've got three kids, I'm 40 years old, I've got some life experience, and if you can't have fun at what you're doing, why are you doing it? I'm having a blast and it's reciprocated with our listeners in that they're having a blast, too. Whether or not they like the dad jokes, I'm not 100 per cent sure, but I'm going to keep having fun with it for now."

The Legion Branch 56 was manning the bar, serving up refreshments during the live sets and in between chuckling at Martens' banter. John Griffin, public relations officer for the Legion Branch 56, was thrilled to have so many people enjoying the venue.

"It's been going excellent," said Griffin. "I want to thank the radio station for all that they do and for partnering with us for this event. It's great to see a lot of people here, and we appreciate all the patrons out here tonight."

Country 94.1 isn't done with the fun yet. Keep listening for great contests, great people, and great music in Swift Current.
