The Estevan Salvation Army is gearing up for a week of fundraising and food donations, with the Smile Cookie campaign underway and the Blow Away Hunger event set for Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Southern Plains Co-op.
The event will offer a meaningful way for residents to support families in need during the challenging winter months. Shoppers can purchase pre-made hampers or donate individual food items at the store. All contributions will go to the Estevan Food Bank, which provides essential supplies to local families as demand rises with dropping temperatures.
The food bank has reported an increased need for staple items, including soup, rice, pasta, pasta sauce, cereal, canned meats such as tuna, canned beans, and vegetables. Potatoes and carrots are also in demand.
“Winter often brings higher costs for fresh produce,” said Ronza Reynard, Community Ministries director for the Estevan Salvation Army Food Bank. “While we prioritize basic staples like milk, eggs, and meat, we also emphasize the importance of affordable fruits and vegetables to support our clients.”
“We just really appreciate the support we get,” Reynard added. “The community just steps up, not just for us, but for all the other nonprofits out there as well, and we really appreciate it when they take that time to see the value in what we’re doing and are willing to partner with us and support us in all this.”
With the holiday season approaching, the Blow Away Hunger event highlights the difference community support can make. Donations will directly help address food insecurity and provide relief to those facing financial hardships.
CJ1150, Sun102, and Country 106.1 are proud to host the fundraiser at Southern Plains Co-op on Thursday, November 21. The top 10 items the food bank needs can be found here. Each donation earns you an entry for a chance to win a snowblower! Donations will be accepted from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Every contribution helps make the season brighter for families in need.
